Bayer's New Albany campus
Bayer revealed earlier in October a plan for a $2.2 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing site in the New Albany International Business Park, home to other big health employers. Key points:
- About 600 jobs, now confirmed as 606 in the state approval
- A flexible, modular campus making medicines for cancer, heart and kidney conditions
- High levels of automation
- First production module expected to be running in 2031
To prepare local workers, Bayer plans to use the new Ohio Life Science Training Center, due to open in summer 2027, to train biomanufacturing operators and technicians.
Types of jobs across the projects
With power equipment makers, an enclosure manufacturer, consultants and a medical device firm in the mix, the openings will be varied:
- Pharmaceutical operators, lab technicians and quality staff (Bayer)
- Production, assembly and warehouse workers (Rittal, Avtron, Forgent, Kyocera Senco)
- Electrical and mechanical engineers
- Consultants, analysts and data specialists (AMEND Consulting)
- Medical device and engineering roles (Certus Medical)
What it means for job seekers
- Most hiring will be gradual. Most projects have until the end of 2029 to reach their job numbers; Bayer has until 2034.
- Biomanufacturing is a growth area in central Ohio. Training as a lab or process technician now could pay off when Bayer starts hiring.
- Electrical and power equipment is a strong field. Several of the approved firms make power or industrial equipment, a sector that is hiring across the US.
- Check each company's own careers page for openings, and be wary of agencies charging fees.
