A major offshore wind contract is set to bring hundreds of skilled jobs to Scotland. SSE Renewables has chosen Aberdeen-based Seaway7 as preferred supplier for key construction work at the Berwick Bank B offshore wind farm, a deal expected to support about 400 skilled offshore jobs in Scotland, Project Scotland reported on 20 October 2026.

The contract

Seaway7 would handle engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the turbine foundations and the subsea inter-array cables that link the turbines together. The wind farm will sit in the outer Firth of Forth, around 38km off the Scottish Borders coast.

Jobs linked to the project

Source of jobs Approximate number
Skilled offshore jobs in Scotland 400
Jobs elsewhere in the UK 65
Direct roles with Seaway7 (led from Aberdeen) 160
Indirect UK supply chain roles 105
Foundation marshalling at a Scottish port (to be named) About 200

Timing

This is not yet a final contract. The appointment depends on the contract being formally awarded and on SSE's final investment decision, expected in late 2027. Offshore construction would follow after that, so most of the direct hiring is a medium-term opportunity.

Scotland's economy secretary Stephen Flynn welcomed the jobs and pointed to up to £500 million of Scottish Government support for offshore wind ports and supply chains. Seaway7 has worked on earlier SSE projects including Beatrice, Seagreen and Dogger Bank.

Jobs likely to be in demand

  • Offshore installation technicians and riggers
  • Marine coordinators and vessel crew
  • Subsea cable engineers and jointers
  • Project engineers and planners
  • Welders, fabricators and port logistics staff for foundation marshalling
  • Health, safety and environment advisers

How to apply

SSE advertises its vacancies, apprenticeships and graduate schemes on its official careers site: careers.sse.com. It currently lists more than 100 roles, including renewables positions in Aberdeen, Montrose, Perth and Inverness. Seaway7 roles are advertised separately by that company.

What it means for job seekers

  • Get offshore tickets. Safety certificates such as GWO basic safety training are usually required for wind farm work at sea.
  • Aberdeen's oil and gas skills transfer well. Many offshore wind roles suit people from the North Sea industry.
  • Look at apprenticeships. SSE runs apprenticeship and early-careers routes that can lead into renewables.
  • Follow the port decision. The marshalling port, still to be named, will need around 200 workers.
