What the plant will do

The new factory will be close to Honeywell Aerospace's Phoenix-area headquarters and will support both commercial aviation and defence work. Part of its output is tied to a supplier agreement Honeywell signed with the US Department of Defense in March.

Honeywell says the plant will be highly digital. It plans to use modular robotics, automated inspection, digital twins and a connected "digital thread" that links design and production data from start to finish.

CEO Jim Currier said the investment shows the company's long-term commitment to Arizona, where Honeywell has operated for decades.

Jobs likely to be needed

Honeywell has not yet published a list of roles. Based on the type of work, likely openings include:

  • Manufacturing and production engineers
  • Robotics and automation technicians
  • CNC machinists and assemblers
  • Quality and inspection specialists
  • Test engineers and technicians
  • Supply chain, planning and logistics staff
  • IT and data roles supporting digital production

Before the plant opens, the construction phase will create work for electricians, pipefitters, welders, equipment operators and general labourers through building contractors.

How to apply

Honeywell lists all of its vacancies on its official Honeywell careers website. Search for "Tempe" or "Phoenix" to see current Arizona roles. Jobs for the new plant are likely to appear closer to its 2028 opening, but Honeywell already employs many people in the Phoenix area and hires there regularly.

What it means for job seekers

  • Start now: Honeywell's existing Arizona sites hire throughout the year, and joining early can put you in line for roles at the new plant.
  • Build automation skills: experience with robotics, PLCs and automated inspection systems will stand out.
  • Defence work may need clearance: some defence roles require US citizenship or security clearance, so read each job post carefully.
  • Foreign applicants: check whether a role offers visa sponsorship before applying from outside the US.
  • Construction workers: look out for contractors hiring for the build phase, which comes first.
