How people were helped into work

The Musandam Labour Department, working with the Office of the Governor of Musandam, used several routes:

Programme People reached
Part-time employment initiative (men and women) 573
Training linked to a job (technical, technological, electrical) About 50
On-the-job training 40
Electronic nomination (job matching) Ongoing

The electronic nomination system matches registered jobseekers with vacancies posted by companies, which is how many Omanis are put forward for private-sector roles.

Where the jobs are

Officials named the sectors expected to create current and future openings in the governorate:

  • Tourism and hospitality, including hotels and tour operators
  • Logistics and maritime transport, especially port work
  • Fisheries
  • Services
  • Large investment projects planned in the area

The work is part of the System of Governorates and Oman Vision 2040, which aim to spread jobs and development beyond Muscat. Hussein bin Khamis Al Naqbi, Director of the Labour Department in Musandam, and Fatima bint Ali Al Shehhi of the Governor's Office both spoke about the results.

What it means for job seekers

  • Register with the Ministry of Labour. Being on the national jobseeker list is how you get nominated for vacancies.
  • Take the training offers. Job-linked training often leads directly to a contract with the partner company.
  • Do not dismiss part-time work. Hundreds of people in Musandam started with part-time roles, which build experience for full-time jobs.
  • Look at tourism and ports. These sectors are growing in Musandam and often need Arabic and English speakers, drivers, technicians and front-line staff.
