What the factory will do
Sarva Foam wants to take foam that would normally be thrown into landfill and turn it into new products such as carpet underlay and flooring. The Scottish Government says this fits its net zero goals, because it keeps waste out of landfill and reuses materials.
The plan was confirmed during the First Minister's meeting with the company in Mumbai. Sarva Foam's chairman, Kunal Giani, described the facility as a way to give old foam a second life. Scottish Enterprise says it will keep working with the company as its plans move forward.
How the jobs will come
The project is planned in stages:
- Phase one: around £6 million of capital spending to set up the first part of the plant.
- Expansion: if phase one goes well and wider funding is confirmed, total investment could rise to £12 million across three years.
- Jobs: the full plan could bring up to 100 positions.
Typical roles at a recycling and manufacturing plant include machine operators, production supervisors, maintenance engineers and electricians, quality control staff, forklift drivers and warehouse workers, plus office roles in sales, logistics and administration.
How to apply
There is no application page yet. The site and hiring timeline have not been announced. Keep an eye on Scottish Enterprise news and on Sarva Foam's own announcements, and be wary of anyone asking for money to "reserve" a job at the new plant.
What it means for job seekers
- Manufacturing experience counts: if you have worked with production lines, foam, plastics or textiles, you will be well placed.
- Get certified: forklift licences, health and safety cards and electrical qualifications make you more attractive to new factories.
- Green skills are growing: recycling and circular economy jobs are expanding across the UK, so this sector is worth following.
- Overseas applicants: new manufacturers sometimes sponsor skilled workers, but always check that an employer holds a sponsor licence before applying from abroad.
- Stay alert: watch for the site announcement, as hiring usually starts a few months before a factory opens.
Scotland is attracting other big employers too, such as Sumitomo Electric's subsea cable factory at Nigg and the Berwick Bank offshore wind jobs.
