Qatar has tightened the rules on when private-sector workers must be paid. Minister of Labour Decision No. 50 of 2026 amends the Wage Protection System (WPS) rules from 2015. It was published in the Official Gazette (Issue No. 15 of 2026) on 8 September 2026 and took effect the day after publication.

The new payment rules

  • Monthly-paid workers: wages are due on the 1st day of every calendar month.
  • Other workers: wages are due on the 1st day of every two-week period.
  • Employers must transfer the wages through the WPS into the worker's account at a financial institution in Qatar within 7 days of the due date.

In practice, a monthly-paid worker should receive their salary by about the 7th of each month.

The decision also updates the old reference to the "Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs" to the current Ministry of Labour.

Who it covers

The rule applies to workers covered by Qatar's Labour Law, which includes most private-sector employees.

What workers can do if salary is late

  1. Keep your bank statements and payslips as proof of payment dates.
  2. Raise the delay with your employer in writing.
  3. If it is not fixed, file a complaint with the Ministry of Labour through its official channels.

Late salary is one of the most common workplace problems for expat workers. A fixed legal payday makes it easier to prove when payment is overdue.
