Changing Jobs in Qatar Without an NOC: Notice Periods and Your Rights

Workers in Qatar can change employers without a No Objection Certificate. You give 1 month's notice with up to 2 years' service, or 2 months after that. Here is how it works.

Since 2020, workers in Qatar no longer need their employer's No Objection Certificate (NOC) to move to a new job. Here is how changing employers works and what notice you must give.

The basics

  • You can change jobs at any time during your contract, without an NOC.
  • Apply through the Ministry of Labour's electronic notification system using the signed and stamped "Change Employer" form. You will receive a reference number.

How much notice to give

Your situation Notice
During probation (up to 6 months) Apply at least 1 month before leaving
Up to 2 years with your employer 1 month
More than 2 years with your employer 2 months

Your employer must give you the same notice if they end your contract.

If you leave before the notice ends

You must pay your employer your basic wage for each day of notice you didn't work.

Example: basic wage QAR 1,500, one-month notice, you stop two weeks early → you owe about QAR 750.

If your employer ends your contract without notice, they must pay you basic wage for the notice period.

What you are owed when you move

If you have worked at least one year, you are entitled to your end-of-service benefit, accrued annual leave and other benefits in your contract when you change employers. In some cases, your employer must also pay your return ticket.

When you can leave without notice

If your employer hasn't met legal obligations, such as not paying your wages, you can change jobs without notice and still claim unpaid wages, end-of-service benefits (after more than one year) and pro rata annual leave.

Important warning

If you leave Qatar without completing your notice, you may not be able to return to work in Qatar for one year.
