The Government of Canada has opened Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) 2027, the yearly programme that pays employers to hire young people over the summer. Employers have until 11:59 pm Pacific Time on 3 December 2026 to apply, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) announced on 27 October 2026.
For youth, this is the first step towards next summer's job postings. Funded jobs go up on Job Bank from spring 2027.
How Canada Summer Jobs works
The government covers part of the wage, which makes it easier for smaller employers to take on a young worker.
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Who the jobs are for | Youth aged 15 to 30 |
| Hours | Full time, 30 to 40 hours a week |
| Length | 6 to 16 weeks in a row (about 8 weeks on average) |

Private businesses can take part only if they have 50 or fewer full-time employees. Not-for-profits and public sector employers can also apply.
Priority sectors for 2027
This year the government wants more summer jobs in four areas:
- Construction
- Environment and climate activities
- Digital skills and exposure to artificial intelligence
- Not-for-profits that serve underserved and equity-deserving communities
Since 2019, CSJ has supported more than 600,000 jobs, according to ESDC. The programme is oversubscribed, so not every employer will be funded.
The announcement was made by Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families, with support from Anna Gainey, Secretary of State (Children and Youth).
How to apply
If you are a young job seeker: CSJ jobs are advertised on the government's official Job Bank. Visit the youth section at jobbank.gc.ca/youth and search for summer roles from spring 2027. You apply directly to the employer listed in each posting.
If you are an employer: Read the CSJ 2027 Applicant Guide and apply through the Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS) portal on canada.ca before 3 December.
What it means for job seekers
- Tell local employers about CSJ. Small businesses, charities and community groups you already know may apply now and keep a spot for you.
- Build skills in the priority areas. Construction safety tickets, environmental volunteering or basic AI and digital skills can help.
- Prepare your résumé early so you can apply quickly when postings appear in April.
- Set up Job Bank alerts for summer jobs in your city.
- Never pay for a CSJ job. Real postings are free to apply for.
