Oman is widening its Omanisation jobs drive in the oil and gas industry, with a programme aimed at filling 130 job titles at service companies and contractors with Omani nationals. The plan was reviewed by the Executive Committee for Local Content at its second meeting of 2026, chaired by Minister of Economy Dr Khamis bin Saif al Jabri, the Oman Observer reported.

What the oil and gas programme does

The oil and gas sector already has one of the highest Omanisation levels in the country. The new step goes further down the supply chain, to the service providers and contracting companies that work for the big operators.

  • 130 job titles at these firms are being targeted for Omani nationals.
  • Oil and gas operators are being asked to mark out jobs for Omanis within their own contracts.
  • The committee also looked at how contracts can be used to create lasting jobs, not just short-term placements.

Imdad moves into government contracts

The National Content Office plans to bring the Imdad programme into government contracts. Imdad started in the energy sector. Its aims are to:

  • build national talent,
  • raise the number of Omanis employed under each contract, and
  • widen access to training and stable, long-term jobs.

Separately, the Local Content Certificate, which also began in energy, will apply to government bodies under the Tenders Law from 2027. Companies bidding for state work will need to show how they support local jobs and suppliers.

New factories could add more jobs

The committee noted six manufacturing investment opportunities released in the first half of 2026:

Platform Products
Nama (Oman Investment Authority) Reverse osmosis membranes, ring main units, steel utility poles, transformer cooling parts
Tatweer (Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning) Locks, hinges and door fittings; sanitary ware

If investors take these up, each factory would need technicians, operators and engineers.

How to apply

No single application page has been published for the 130 job titles. Omani job seekers should keep their profile up to date with the Ministry of Labour and watch vacancy announcements from oil and gas contractors and operators, which are shared through the ministry and company careers pages.

What it means for job seekers

  • Train for the field. Technical diplomas, HSE certificates and trade qualifications give the best chance at contractor roles.
  • Target contractors, not only operators. The new push is aimed at the service and contracting firms, where many openings sit.
  • Follow tender news. From 2027, companies winning government contracts will be expected to hire and train Omanis.
  • Look at tech too. Oman also plans 3,000 tech jobs a year under its digital economy programme, and new factory deals in Sohar, Duqm and Salalah are adding industrial roles.
