Skilled workers searching for EU jobs with visa sponsorship may want to look at Austria's rail industry. Traktionssysteme Austria (TSA), which builds electric traction motors for trains, trams and buses, has opened a new €9.5 million plant in Wiener Neudorf, just south of Vienna, and plans to add about 100 jobs by 2030, electrive.net reported on 27 October 2026.

The new building, called Werk 3a, was officially opened on 15 October 2026. It will stamp the electrical steel sheets used inside TSA's motors.

Why TSA is growing

Until now, TSA made only about a fifth to a quarter of its motor sheets in-house. With the new plant, it will make all of them itself. Once the second machine arrives next year, the site should produce around five million sheets a year. The company says this will also save about 200 tonnes of CO₂ every year.

The new plant is part of a wider plan known as "TSA-City", with four production halls on the site. Demand for electric rail and bus motors is rising across Europe as cities expand public transport.

Which jobs to expect

TSA did not list the 100 new posts. Its current careers page shows openings such as metalworking apprentices and quality management staff. Growth at a motor factory usually means roles like:

  • Machine operators and CNC/press technicians
  • Electrical and mechanical engineers
  • Quality inspectors and quality engineers
  • Maintenance technicians
  • Apprentices in metal and electrical trades

Working in Austria from abroad

EU citizens can work in Austria freely. Non-EU skilled workers often use the Red-White-Red Card, which needs a job offer and enough points for qualifications, experience, age and language. Shortage trades such as technicians and engineers can qualify. German language skills make a big difference, as most adverts at TSA are in German.

How to apply

Visit the official TSA careers page, which lists current vacancies, including production jobs and apprenticeships. Send a CV in the Austrian style, with a photo and clear dates, and mention any rail or electric motor experience.

What it means for job seekers
