US defence giant Lockheed Martin says a big push to make more missiles and munitions will create 6,000 jobs across the United States, including about 2,000 in Texas. The company announced the plan on 14 October 2026.
At the centre of the expansion is a $300 million investment at the company's Grand Prairie, Texas, plant. This is part of a wider $8–9 billion commitment through 2030 to modernise or grow more than 20 US sites.

What the Grand Prairie site does
The Grand Prairie plant makes parts for several missile programmes, including PAC-3 MSE, THAAD, PrSM and JATM. These parts are then sent to final assembly plants in Camden, Arkansas, and Troy, Alabama.
The site will grow to more than 735,000 square feet. That includes 100,000 sq ft of new space and 85,000 sq ft of offices being turned into factory floor. More than 30 high-precision machines are already working there, and the company expects to have nearly 100 advanced machines by the end of 2026. An automated machining cell from supplier Hadrian is due to start in early 2027.
What kinds of jobs to expect
Lockheed Martin has not listed the roles. For a manufacturing expansion of this type, demand is usually strongest for:
- CNC machinists and machine operators
- Manufacturing, quality and industrial engineers
- Maintenance technicians
- Supply chain and logistics staff
- Inspectors and production supervisors
How to apply
Lockheed Martin posts all openings on its official careers site, lockheedmartinjobs.com. Search by location, for example "Grand Prairie" or "Texas", and set up job alerts.
What it means for job seekers
- Skilled trades are in demand. If you have machining, welding or maintenance experience, this is a good time to apply.
- Check citizenship rules. Many defence jobs require US citizenship and a security clearance. Read each job advert carefully.
- Think about suppliers too. Big defence expansions also create jobs at local parts makers and contractors.
- Set alerts early. Openings will be posted over several years, so a saved search on the careers site is the easiest way to catch them.
