If you are hoping to move to Australia on an employer-sponsored visa, your job offer must meet a minimum salary. These minimums are updated every year, and the current figures have applied since 1 July 2026.
The new salary minimums
| Threshold | Before 1 July 2026 | From 1 July 2026 | Used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) | AUD 76,515 | AUD 79,423 | Skills in Demand (subclass 482) Core Skills stream; Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) |
| Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) | AUD 141,210 | AUD 146,576 | Skills in Demand (subclass 482) Specialist Skills stream |
| Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) | AUD 76,515 | AUD 79,423 | Regional visas such as subclass 494 and 187 nominations |
Who is affected
- The new figures apply to employer nominations lodged on or after 1 July 2026.
- People who already hold a visa, and nominations lodged before that date, are not affected.
What this means for job seekers abroad
- Check the salary in your offer. If the base salary is below the threshold for your visa stream, the nomination will not be approved.
- The salary must also match the market rate. Employers must pay at least what Australian workers in the same role earn, even if that is higher than the threshold.
- The thresholds rise each year, usually on 1 July, so an offer made in June may need updating if the nomination is lodged later.
Be careful of visa scams
Australia does not require you to pay an agent for a job offer. If someone promises "guaranteed sponsorship" for a fee, check with the Department of Home Affairs before you pay anything.
Apply only through the official source.
